Dan-

Great story. I just now read all three pieces.

And while I agree with you that these are all great concepts and ideas *in theory* (and you did cite examples of how these things are already happening) I'm left to wonder how- if ever- will this get wrangled into a real, certifiable and efficient news model?

I've obviously got little faith in PennLive and The Patriot-News *as an institution* but know full-well the power and effectiveness of a well written, consistent blog.

I guess my question is- will Advance Publications craft an entirely new Website tailored to embrace the new media? Or will PennLive continue to disgrace itself by hanging onto a dead format?

I believe it's high time for a completely new and independent news source- here in Harrisburg AND nationwide- but that requires a huge investment.

[...] Defending the underlying principles of crowdsourcing. Daniel Victor is on to part three of his defense of crowd-sourcing as a way of filling some of the gaps left as newsrooms get smaller. His idea that the community can provide coverage of such things as gas prices and traffic (to cite two of his examples) strikes some commenters are dangerous. [...]
